Abstract

The AIRMON (Air Monitoring Station) station is located in the North/North-Eastern part of the JRC, in a semi-rural region away from emission sources such as road traffic or factories. Main Pollution sources are in the cities of Varese, approximately 20km east, Novara, about 40km to the south and Milan, 60 km to the south-east, but also several industrial locations spread out throughout the Po-Valley.
The AIRMON station operates on a regular basis since 1985. It is managed by the Institute for Environment and Sustainability of the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission in Ispra, Italy.
