EU-Supported research into major diseases, moving towards healthier horizons

Funded under: FP6-LIFESCIHEALTH

Abstract

Europeans are living longer and healthier lives, regularly surviving well into their 70s and 80s. This longer life expectancy is largely due to rising living standards but especially to major advances in medical science. Nevertheless, as we push out the limits of our knowledge, new frontiers present themselves. Despite the unprecedented extent of medical knowledge and skill, Europe, together with the rest of the world, still faces major health challenges that require a concerted effort on the part of the scientific community to overcome them.
