Review of EU data on food consumption surveys in support to exposure assessment for food contact materials

Funded under: FP6-FOOD

In the frame of the EU funded project QLRT-2002-02390 Food migrosure, food consumption in Europe was investigated in order to select food consumption in Europe was investigated in order to select food where consumption is relevant enough in terms of consumption to be representative in migration studies on real foodstuffs in order to check the validity of the validity of the current mathematical models and well as produce data for further exposure assessment. Data were derived from national data, publications, and semi-public reports. Trends to greater consumption or decreasing consumption were also considered. Based on this study and considering aspects of food chemistry and prosperity for migration, typical relevant foodstuffs were proposed as matrices to perform migration studies for a number of selected chemicals in a number of plastics films.
