Abstract

The book summarises the activity undertaken at the Joint Research Centres Institute for the Protection and Security of the Citizen in connection with the VIRTU@LIS project. Following the development of the software, an important phase of quality assurance has been carried out in collaboration with the University of Milano.
It contains preliminary notions about the climate change problematique, its possible relation with the greenhouse gases, Integrated Assessment - a scientific research framework in which it has been addressed - and international approaches to deal with it. It also briefly describes the knowledge assessment methodology which is at the heart of the V GAS project and the principles of design of new interfaces between science and society, deploying new Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). All these prominent fields of research have defined the work developed during the design, implementation and testing phases of the project.
