Modelling phase transformations in strained austenite is of particular interest in the case of microalloyed steels, highly alloyed steels and ultra-fast cooling proceed steels. Within this ultimate objective, the present research project goals were:
(i) to develop high temperature stress relaxation as a rapid mechanical test to characterise the evolution of the microstuctural state of austenite after deformation;
(ii) to provide a better understanding of the metallurgical mechanisms underlying the coupling between the deformation state of the austenite and its subsequent decomposition.
