The reference design of the iron source for the ITER Neutral Beam Injectors uses tungsten filaments.
THe present study has been motivated by:
1. The lifetime of such filaments is limited as during operation (at 2800-2900 K) the filaments become thinner because of evaporation and eventually break.
2. Tungsten evaporation changes the composition
