Report on equality between women and men 2005

Funded under: FP6-SOCIETY

This second annual report is the first to take in 25 EU Member States. It deals with the issue of gaps between women and men in wages and employment - the need to balance careers with family commitments continues to pose a serious problem, and the domestic work still is unfairly shared. Also, it is essential to take account of sex issues in immigration and integration policies.
A fundamental principle of the European Union is equality between women and men. Even though progress has been made in this respect in areas such as education, employment policies, or participation in the decision-making process, many challenges remain.
