Modelling of particle injection and edge plasma flows: detachment, transport and turbulence
Plasma fuelling is a major issue for future tokamaks. Supersonic gas injection has been tested on Tore Supra and has demonstrated an improved efficiency, attributed to a transient detachment of the plasma. In order to study particle injection and transport, two complementary approaches have been followed. First, a 0D multi-reservoir model has been developped, allowing to study the detachment caused by particle injection. Bifurcations to radiative regimes are clearly evidenced. Second, a 3D fluid code, able to simulate transport and turbulence in the edge plasma, is under development. The equations of the model are discussed, as well as the boundary conditions and the numerical treatment. Preliminary validation studies are presented.
