Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

The ‘Quality of Life’ priority of the Fifth Framework Programme was based around six key actions aimed at enhancing the quality of life of European citizens and improving the competitiveness of European industry. The need for research aimed at policy development or policy assessment is more clearly required with respect to the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). This is why the Commission services have launched an expert review of on-going projects under Key Action 5 of this programme. The objective of the review was to assess the potential policy impact of the selected research projects funded in the area of sustainable agriculture with the exception of non-food, fisheries and forestry. At the final discussion of the panel of experts, a list of 13 projects was selected as the most relevant in terms of impact on agricultural policy including rural development. It is the intention, in this publication, to present the review report in the context of CAP reform and of the current and future research programmes on support to agricultural policy.
