ExternE - externalities of energy - methodology 2005 update

Funded under: FP6-SUSTDEV

The internalisation of external costs is a key element for the implementation of sustainable development in Europe. The so-called ExternE methodology provides a framework for transforming impacts that are expressed in different units into a common one: monetary value. The methodology has been updated in order to better quantify the social and environmental damages of energy, especially those provoked by air pollution coming from energy production and consumption. This report describes in detail the methodology used to analyse those external costs according to the following impact categories: environmental impacts, global warming impacts and accidents.
