The aim of the project was to develop guidelines for the specification and design of floors, with regard to vibrational behaviour. Several design methods were developed and investigated during the project. For the specification of floor vibration, for example in a tender, only the assessment guideline that links occupancies to vibration classes is needed. The designer can now choose from several design methods to fulfil the specification. Some of the design methods have a limited field of application and different complexities. As rules and practices vary in European countries, one of the main challenges of the project was to define unified acceptance criteria for floor vibration, in conjunction with local design practice. By proposing five design methods, it is now possible to perform simple vibration checks at early stages of design, as well as more advanced checks for various kinds of building occupancies and highly advanced simulations for special cases. A unified technique for measurements and their assessment could be developed. Another important outcome of this project covers load functions for human-induced vibrations. The results of the project were obtained by taking measurements on different floors at different stages of construction, and numerical investigations allowed individual effects to be assessed.
