Europe strengthens passengers' rights

Funded under: FP6-SOCIETY

Each year, in Europe, several million air passengers are the victims of overbooking, lengthy delays and sudden cancellation of flights. This is why Europe has decided to strengthen air passenger rights through a Regulation which comes into force in February 2005 and which will lead to immediate and automatic compensation for any damage suffered. But it is not only air transport which is affected. The European Commission hopes to strengthen passenger rights in a similar way for all modes of transport, amongst others international rail transport, drawing special attention to people with reduced mobility.
