For the past 15 years, the European Union has been at the forefront of international efforts to combat and mitigate human-induced climate change. As more than 80% of the CO2 emissions are due to the energy and transport sectors, most of the EUs efforts to reduce its emission focus on these areas. This brochure summarises the Commission activities aimed at promoting increasingly sustainable use of energy and more environmentally friendly modes of transport.
