Deep Geological Disposal and its Long-Term SafetyFunded under: FP6-JRC
Finding an acceptable solution for spent nuclear fuel and high-level waste management is one of the key issues of nuclear power industry. The deep geological repository seems to be the only acceptable long-term solution that provides passive protection against any harmful release of radioactive material to biosphere. The present report describes the processes that affect the radionuclide migration in repository situated in clay and crystalline host rock and how to model them. The long-term performance assessment calculations have been performed on the base of Swiss (clay) and Swedish (crystalline) disposal concepts. The modelling has been done in deterministic way using modelling tool PROPER.
