Compression Properties of Ductile Cast Iron used for Thick-Walled Components

The report covers a programme of compression experiments performed on ductile cast iron used for the production of thick-walled components. Stress - strain curves and related compressive properties are discussed. Further, the results from basic metallographic examination are presented. It is found that the ductile cast iron shows more pronounced strain hardening than measured under tensile loading conditions. Moreover no low ductility failures are observed, even if there is evidence of cracking inside the test specimens.
