Treatment of Data Uncertainty for the Modelling of Radionuclide Migration in Geological Repository

Abstract

Over the very long time scales considering for deep geological repositories, the evolution of engineered barriers and considering environments are subject to changes and subsequent uncertainties. The performance assessment distinguishes between scenario, conceptual and parameter uncertainty. This document deals solely with the parameter uncertainty. It compiles input data and evaluation of uncertainty in these data for the calculations of radionuclide migration in the deep geological repository system.
The information from the sensitivity analyses are used to guide the scientific and design work to be carried out in future stages of repository planning and development. There is clear consensus among the national programmes on the importance of managing the uncertainties in the assessment of system performance. However, national programmes have different approaches so it is important to facilitate the information and identify common elements to managing the uncertainty. Because the national concepts differ in many points it is very task.
