Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

This special issue of Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion comprises refereed papers contributed by invited speakers at the 32nd European Physical Society Conference on Plasma Physics. The conferencewas jointly hosted by the Laboratorio Nacional de Fusión (Asociación EURATOM-CIEMAT para Fusión) and the Universitat Rovira i Virgili, Tarragona, Spain. The conference was held at the Congress Palace of Tarragona from 27 June to 1 July 2005. The overall agenda of the conference was set by the Board of the Plasma Physics Division of the European Physical Society, chaired by Jo Lister (CRPP, Lausanne). The conference continued the policy of expanding the scientific scope, whilst maintaining depth and quality. As part of this policy, the conference incorporated the 8th International Workshop on Fast Ignition of Fusion Targets. The names of the members of the correspondingly diverse Programme Committee are listed below.
In preparing the scientific programme of the conference, the Programme Committee formed specialist sub-committees to adequately represent the different fields of plasma physics. The chairmen of these respective committees shouldered a heavy load on behalf of their respective research communities. Therefore, it is a great pleasure to thank Richard Buttery (UKAEA, UK), Dimitri Batani (INFN, Italy), Javier Honrubia (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Spain), Holger Kersten (INP Greifswald, Germany) and Richard Dendy (UKAEA, UK). The role of Scientific Secretary of the Programme Committee was filled by Boudewijn van Milligen. Without his considerable efforts, neither the conference programme nor this special issue would have come to pass and so I wish to take this opportunity to record my special thanks to him.
