Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

The third European Research Infrastructures conference was held under the banner of the UKs Presidency of the EU with the support of the European Commission. It was hosted by the University of Nottingham and was attended by 350 research policy planners, senior managers of research infrastructures and researchers. Plenary sessions looked at research infrastructure roadmap activities both inside and outside Europe. The work of the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI) to develop a coordinated European roadmap was presented and discussed. Speakers from a broad range of disciplines presented their current activities and future needs, highlighting difficulties and putting forward examples of good practice. Policy and management issues were not forgotten. The role of Community actions (Seventh RTD Framework Programme, European Investment Bank, Regional Funds) to strengthen the European Research Area and support the creation and development of new research infrastructures (RIs) was also discussed. A fourth conference on research infrastructures will be held just before summer 2007.
