Simulated and experimental results for selected chemicals on the ecosystem level response

Funded under: FP7-JRC

In this study we represent the effects of contaminants on population dynamics on theoretical and experimental basis and we discuss how to move forward in order to be able to combine both approaches. The main objective would be to be able, using simplified models, to capture the essential dynamics of mesocosm experiments and to be able to provide experimental conditions where a regime shift at ecosystem level could be expected due to selected contaminants. At the moment both approaches have been run in parallel. The first attempt to joint them has been carried out by trying to find suitable parameters to describe the zooplankton uptake and release of PAHs (Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons).
