Concentrating solar power - From research to implementation

Funded under: FP7-ENERGY

A wider exploitation of renewable energy sources is a key priority for the European Union. The development of renewables is part of the EU's strategy to inhance its security of energy supply, boost industrial competitiveness and promote economic and social development.
In this context, wind is a clear success story and good progress has been made in biomass and photovoltaics. The potential of the contribution of concentrating solar power plants, a sector that the EU has been supporting for more than ten years, to a more sustainable energy system, has still to be exploited.
Research, technological development and demostration of a new generation of renewable energy technologies has an essential role to play in meeting growing energy demand and to allow concentrating solar power technologies to become another EU success story.
