Funded under: FP7-SIS

On 29 and 30 June 2006, an open and exploratory workshop entitled "Historical Perspectives on Science and Politics" was held by the European Commission. The ultimate aim of this workshop was to provide input to policy-making at EU level regarding science and/in society. The event was organised by Dominique Pestre, director of studies at L'Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales, along with Peter Galison, Harvard University, Jean-Paul Gaudilliere, Institut National de la Santé et de la Recherche Médicale and Simon Schaffer, Cambridge University. A direct outcome of the workshop was this report, written by Professor Pestre which provides a set of direct messages to the European Commission to help it enrich its approach to science and/in society issues from a policy perspective.
