Science at the service of Europe

Funded under: FP7

Creating an environment that is conducive to research and making appropriate financial assistance available at the right time is essential if the European Union is to meet its own strategy and become the world's most competitive and dynamic knowledge-based economy. In its Annual Activity Report 2007, the European Commission's Directorate General for Research outlines the new vision for the European Research Area and how its main tool, the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7), will boost the European research base and help Europe in its quest to become a much stronger, competitive player on the world's stage. This publication summarises the main events and outcomes. It is illustrated by examples of some outstanding EU-funded projects which clearly demonstrate the benefits of co-operation between countries and across continents to ensure a better future for the EU and its citizens.
