European research for a healthier future

Funded under: FP7-HEALTH

Human beings are insatiably curious creatures, and research and development (R&D) are fine expressions of this curiosity. R&D has transformed our lives, and will continue to do so in the future. In the health sector, this translates into breakthrough research to treat, cure or, better yet, prevent disease.
In the European Union we are determined to play our part in these efforts, joining forces with partners in both developed and developing countries to support R&D in the health sector. The European Union provides considerable financial support in this area, mostly through Cooperation under the Seventh Framework Programme for research and technological development (FP7). EU funding serves to connect European scientists of the highest level of excellence in order to consolidate Europe's position as a global market leader in health research.
We need collaborative, cross-disciplinary research both within Europe and beyond its borders. The European Research Area (ERA) should give researchers opportunities to forge key partnerships in Europe and abroad, to work together to transfer knowledge, and to contribute to global sustainable development. Such partnerships also give European health-related industries a considerable edge.
