Certification of Master Batches of Charpy V-notch reference test pieces of nominal energy levels 30 J, 80 J and 120 J, ERM-FA013ba, ERM-FA015v, ERM-FA016ax

Abstract

This certification report describes the processing and characterisation of ERM-FA013ba, ERM-FA015v and ERM-FA016ax, three batches of Charpy V-notch certified reference test pieces. These batches will serve as Master Batches, to be used by IRMM for the certification of secondary batches. Sets of five pieces taken from a secondary batch are distributed by IRMM and its authorised distributors for the verification of pendulum impact test machines according to EN 10045-2 (Charpy impact test on metallic materials, Part 2. Method for the verification of impact testing machines) or according to ISO 148-2 (Metallic materials - Charpy pendulum impact test - Part 2: Verification of test machines).
The certified values for KV (absorbed energy = energy required to break a V-notched test piece using a pendulum impact test machine) are estimates of the mean value of the whole batch. The obtained values are shown in the table below. The associated uncertainties are standard uncertainties corresponding to a confidence level of about 68%.
