Gender in research: Gender impact assessment of the specific programmes of the Fifth Framework Programme: Environment and Sustainable Development sub-programme

Abstract

This study is part of a series of eight studies aimed at assessing the gender impact in the specific programmes of the Fifth Framework Programme of the European Community for Research, Technological Development, and Demonstration Activities (1998-2002), in order to formulate recommendations for a better integration of the gender dimension in future research activities and programmes.

The objective of the study is to provide a gender impact assessment of the specific sub-programme "Environment and Sustainable Development" of FP5 in order to formulate recommendations for a better integration of the gender dimension in future research activities and programmes.

This final report presents the key results of the study, and summarises the most important findings of three working papers:
- Gender and environment: State of the art and evaluation concept;
- Implementation of the Environment and Sustainable Development (ESD) Work Programme;
- Analysis of the Environment and Sustainable Development (ESD) Work Programme and Gender Issues.
