Funded under: FP5-LIFE QUALITY

Abstract

This study is part of a series of eight studies aimed at assessing the gender impact in the specific programmes of the Fifth Framework Programme of the European Community for Research, Technological Development, and Demonstration Activities (1998-2002), in order to formulate recommendations for a better integration of the gender dimension in future research activities and programmes.

The objective of the study is to provide a gender impact assessment of the specific programme "Quality of Life and Management of Living Resources" of FP5 in order to formulate recommendations for a better integration of the gender dimension in future research activities and programmes. The integration of the gender dimension is analysed by focusing on three aspects of the gender and science issue, namely science by, for and about women. Chapter 1 comprises a description of the state of the art in gender and the life sciences. Chapter 2 addresses science by women, and chapter 3 addresses science for and about women.
