Abstract

This study is part of a series of eight studies aimed at assessing the gender impact in the specific programmes of the Fifth Framework Programme of the European Community for Research, Technological Development, and Demonstration Activities (1998-2002), in order to formulate recommendations for a better integration of the gender dimension in future research activities and programmes.

The objective of the study is to provide a gender impact assessment of the specific programme "Promotion of innovation and encouragement of participation of SMEs" of FP5 in order to formulate recommendations for a better integration of the gender dimension in future research activities and programmes.

In particular, the gender impact study explored different aspects of the Innovation and SMEs programme:
- the participation of women and men in all groups involved in the design and implementation of the programme;
- the mainstreaming of gender in the practical conception and implementation of the programme;
- areas of improvement for policy integration with respect to the gender dimension.
