The aim of this project is to reduce the dimensions of aerosol test specimens and systems by up to one-fifth of full scale. The validity of the results is established by comparing full-scale and small-scale aspiration-efficiency measurements on a selection of typical dust monitoring inlets. Five experimental systems suited to carrying out aspiration measurements on different scales were developed, commissioned and evaluated. The results verified that scaling principles can be applied to aerosol test systems, provided that gravity is not a dominant effect within the system.
