Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

The eContent programme aims at facilitating access for all to the Internet, by stimulating the development, use and distribution of European digital content on the global networks and promoting linguistic diversity in the information society. eContent is based on three action lines:
- improving access to and expanding use of public sector information;
- enhancing content production in a multilingual and multicultural environment;
- increasing the dynamism of the digital content market.

This brochure presents an overview of eContent projects resulting from the first call for proposals, published in March 2001. The projects selected showcase the major economic and social potential of European digital content. Altogether, 21 projects and accompanying measures with a total budget of about EUR 35 million, receiving a total EU funding of about EUR 20 million, are described in this brochure.
