The topic of endocrine disruption emerged as a research priority in FP4 as a response to rising public and policy concerns. Initial research focused on the effects of endocrine disrupting chemicals in the environment and, in particular, in the aquatic world. Research in this area was expanded during FP5 as part of the Quality of Life and Management of Living Resources programme, and also extended to human health issues. This overview presents the projects on endocrine disrupters that were funded by FP4 and FP5.
