Abstract

The Commission of the European Communities is inviting proposals for research, technological development and demonstration (RTD) projects, concerted actions and is inviting applications to organize advanced study courses and for individual fellowships under the specific programme of marine science and technology. Consortia of organizations eligible to participate in the programme (universities, research centres and industries including SMEs) are invited to submit proposals for the areas set out below and covered by the Work Programme:

- Research area A: Marine science:
. Marine systems research;
.Extreme marine environments;
. Regional seas research;

- Research area B: Strategic marine research:
. Coastal and shelf seas research;
. Coastal engineering and natural defences;

- Research area C: Marine technology:
. Generic technologies;
. Advanced systems.

- Research area D.1: Advanced study courses:
The specific topics of the courses must fall into one of the following disciplines which are those of main interest to the MAST programme:

. Physical oceanography;
- Biological oceanography;
. Chemical oceanography;
. Marine geosciences;
. Coastal zone science and engineering;
. Marine instrumentation;
. Marine generic technologies.

- Fellowships:
The main objective of the MAST individual fellowships is to provide opportunities for the advanced training, exchange, and mobility of researchers at the doctoral and postdoctoral level in marine science and technology.
