  • Standards, measurements and testing, 1994-1998. Topic 14: Determination of safety categories of electrical devices used in potentially explosive atmospheres


This document provides more detailed and more technical background information relating to this topic of the sixth call for proposals under the specific programme for standards, measurements and testing (SMT), 1994-1998. The proposed item has the following general aim:
- A contribution to the current standardization of CENELEC by drafting a description of the appropriate safety categories can be established;
- The definition of all used safety devices and study of their characteristics and performances in this context;
- A description of the different safety categories and a method to identify those categories should be drafted;
- The correspondence with the relevant essential safety requirements of the applicable directive should be determined and where necessary specific measuring methods drafted;
- Special attention has to be paid to the calibration methods and to the reproducibility of the measurements.
