Standards, measurements and testing, 1994-1998. Topic 28: Harmonized method for the distinction of hot-rolled metals from cold-rolled metalsFunded under: FP4-SMT
This document provides more detailed and more technical background information relating to this topic of the sixth call for proposals under the specific programme for standards, measurements and testing (SMT), 1994-1998. Hot-rolled and cold-rolled steel bars have two different classifications and undergo different treatments when imported in the EU. A study and an evaluation of microscopic structure and external characteristics relating to the two types of laminates should be carried out in order to identify a relationship between structural characteristics and rolling process used, also on the basis of existing commercial standardization (see UNI-ISO). The study should also aim to establish a clear difference between the two products and to define, in practice, to what extent the metal thickness should be affected by the rolling process.
