Abstract

This background information note does not change the content of the http://ica.cordis.lu/search/index.cfm?fuseaction=lib.simpledocument&DOC_ID=6662227 (work programme). However, it intends to remind applicants of the important debate that is ongoing at the European level especially on human embryonic stem cell research. In this view, a community supported European registry of stem cells, that will include human embryonic stem cell lines, would be expected to contribute to optimising the use of existing lines, minimise duplication, and help to ensure, in particular, that new human embryonic stem cell lines will be created only where necessary.
