  • The local information society. Development and description of possible scenarios for the assimilation of the new information technologies by the European society in the next decades

The report presents results from an expert workshop, held in Palma de Mallorca 12th and 13th of June, 1996. The expert workshop was mainly of an experimental and methodological nature and has given useful experience regarding two key questions in the scenario workshop methodology. One concerning the general question: how to build scenarios, which can function as a useful tool for local debate? Can we come closer to the construction of a tool kit for scenario building in general? The other concerning the question: what are important issues and options in debates on the information society - in different European localities?

The specific aim of the Mallorca workshop was to determine a model for scenario building: to come closer to constructing a manual or a tool kit for making scenarios, which can easily be adopted both to different subject areas - and to local cultures in different parts of Europe. This is an ambitious task, and the workshop brought valuable insight and experience for the continued work.
