EUROCHAMBRES Position Paper 2004, Contribution to the consultation on research themes in FP7

Funded under: FP7

European Chambers support the focus of the FP7 on a range of research themes to create impact. We recommend a strong emphasis on the wide range of fields underpinning biotechnology, material science and Information and Communication Technologies.
EUROCHAMBRES urges an extension of the budget line for Cooperative Research Action For Technology (CRAFT), offering a serious opportunity for SMEs to take part in European Research. EC should also increase funding collaborations between SMEs and research centres.
EUROCHAMBRES recommends that the funding process be dramatically simplified and shortened to encapsulate high level research proposal that allows for flexibility in research depending upon advances made. A better integration of IT, including digital signatures and archiving is to be reached.
The European Union must not detract from but complement national research policies and must emphasis not only a knowledge-based but a competitive economy. The Lisbon and Barcelona objectives can only realistically be accomplished, if companies are supported as the motor of innovation.
