Abstract

EuroNanoForum 2005, the international Forum (conference, workshops and exhibition) on 'Nanotechnology and the Health of the EU Citizen in 2020', was organised in September 2005 by the Institute of Nanotechnology and the European Commission in the framework of the UK Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The event gathered about 1000 participants from around the world, who are key players and specialists in nanotechnology applied to health, to present and discuss the European developments in nanosciences and nanotechnologies for medical applications, thus bringing together many different disciplines with a focus on healthcare.
The information gathered in these Proceedings provides an overview of the state-of-the-art in the multidisciplinary field of nanomedicine (including: tissue engineering, drug delivery, cellular function, congenital/degenerative diseases, nanoimaging, implants, and disagnostic tools), as well asof the related cross-cutting topics, such as risk assessment, communication, ethics, societal aspects, commercialisation, and understanding and addressing the specific requirements of the developing world.
