Development Scenarios for European Infrastructure in High Performance Computing, Tender Specifications

Funded under: FP6-IST

Europe is building leading-edge Research Infrastructures to support eScience. This is particularly the case for ICT-based infrastructures (eInfrastructure in short). Europe pushes technological development to its limits and creates facilities that are made available to the Research Community at large. European efforts like DEISA, EGEE and GÉANT are world-leading examples of advanced backbone infrastructures that provide a solid foundation to the European Research Area (ERA). Furthermore, the i2010 Policy Framework4 established priorities that, altogether, aim at the reinforcement of the transfer of best-practice and expertise between Research and Industry in different sectors of social and economic activity. In the evolution of the e-Infrastructure, Europe must seek to develop a policy for the development of High Performance Computing infrastructure.
