Overview of European Fusion Materials RTD

Funded under: FP7-EURATOM-FUSION

The intention of this note is to contribute to the European discussion on fusion materials by presenting an overview of the main RTD lines on fusion materials, together with various related supporting elements, mainly the irradiation facilities and hot cell laboratories utilised to carry out those RTD activities.
This note reflects the variety of fronts, in which European RTD activities on fusion materials are currently developed. However, it does not specifically address developments in superconducting materials and irradiation effects on instrumentation and on diagnostics equipment.
The Technology Work Programme of EFDA (European Fusion Development Agreement) remains the reference on European research activities on fusion materials. It encompasses all European RTD activities on technology addressing also fusion materials grouped within a short-term framework for the ITER international fusion experimental reactor and with a more long-term perspective for the demonstration stage DEMO.
