DG Research of the European Commission is responsible for implementing the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) for RTD1. The objective of the FP7 Cooperation specific programme 2007, theme 8 "Socioeconomic sciences and humanities" is to generate an indepth, shared understanding of complex and interrelated socio-economic challenges Europe is confronted with, such as growth, employment and competitiveness, social cohesion, social, cultural and educational challenges in an enlarged EU, sustainability, migration and integration, quality of life and global interdependence, in particular with the view of providing an improved knowledge base for policies in the fields concerned.
In the FP7 Cooperation specific programme, theme 8 "Socioeconomic sciences and humanities" 2007 work programme, this call for tender is part of Activity 8.7 dealing with Foresight activities. By identifying and anticipating the key drivers of change and the related socio-economic impacts, foresight can help to identify future research and innovation priorities going beyond the Lisbon strategy and can contribute to building a strong European Research Area (ERA).
The achievement of the ERA is the main priority for European research policy, and will remain so in the foreseeable future. There is a need for developing perspectives on the future of the ERA and, as an input to that, for assessing the past and the present of the ERA, and for clarifying the main drivers of European S&T integration.
