Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

Building on the exceptional success of the research programmes of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) and the assets left (EUR 1600 Million) at the expiry of the ECSC Treaty in 2002, a Research Fund for Coal and Steel (RFCS) was set up on 1st February 2003.
The budget of the Fund is generated by the yearly interests produced by these assets. Typically these amount to about EUR 60 Million/year of which 27.2% and 72.8% are respectively earmarked for coal and steel. This is approximately equivalent to a EUR 300 Million five year activity of the Framework Programme.
The RFCS is definitely an industrial programme which supports research and pilot projects and supplements the Framework Programme.
An Information Package is available to help programme participants understand the procedures for proposal preparation and submission, project monitoring and project reporting.
