AKOGRIMO: Access to knowledge through the grid in a mobile world
Project ID: 004293Funded under: FP6-IST
The starting point for Akogrimo had been two emerging trends: the global development toward an All-IP network independent from the access network technology and the evolution of Grid technology from a proprietary niche technology targeting purely compute intensive eScience applications in direction of a universally useable utility technology based on Web Services. The platform realized based on these two major technological developments has been demonstrated for an eHealth emergency response system and a disaster handling and crisis management (DHCM) scenario. Overall Setting of the DHCM demonstrator was a terrorist attack in the centre of a major city, namely the explosion of a dirty bomb. To handle this situation, the demonstrator facilitated the provision of eye-witness knowledge to an emergency call centre. Based on this initial trigger a dynamic collaboration between different work forces such as a crisis handling centre, police and emergency services integrating local resources such as cameras is established. This collaboration infrastructure supporting different kind of services and information exchange mechanism including Grid integrated audio/video communication enables an effective exchange of resources, information and knowledge in order to effectively coordinates the activities of the different participants.
