The ESTEP Secretariat has had a year of consolidation. The culmination of the Working Group activities has lead to both RFCS and FP7 proposals.
In April, the Implementation group set up a task force group to focus on communication.
The group which consists of Jean-Claude Charbonnier, Wim Moonen, Claire Grapeloux and Nicol Remoy have produced a new ESTEP brochure, have updated the website and established the ESTEP CIRCA database.
In May, the first Mirror Group meeting took place with 14 member states, representatives of ESTEP and the EU Commission. Further meetings with Programme Officers from the European Commission have been organized to strengthen the knowledge of both the future calls in FP7 and to advise the Project Co-ordinators and Working Group Chairmen.
In July, Mr Wurth as Chairman of the Steering Committee sent a letter to the relevant Directors of DG Research to remind them of the main updated priorities of the ESTEP's SRA, which was circulated to the corresponding head of Units and Programme Officers.
ESTEP has organized and participated in numerous International events. In April it coorganised the European Steel Companies-Universities joint conference in Warsaw. In November it co-organised a day's conference at Stahl 2007 which took place in Dusseldorf.
Closer links have been established with other platforms including the European Wind Energy Platform. Contacts have also been made with Philippe Busquin who leads the temporary Climate Change Committee at the European Parliament.
In December, a meeting was organized with Mr Von Bose, the new Director in charge of Industrial Technologies in DG Research to present an update of the ESTEP's SRA.
A document on Lead Markets has been produced in collaboration with other platforms. ESTEP contributed to the Green Paper on the "European Research Area". With the Energy group of Eurofer, ESTEP gave input to the SET-Plan of the EU Commission.
