The second call for proposals for research at the Sandgerdi Marine Centre (SMC), Iceland, funded within the EU's programme for the Training and Mobility of Researchers (TMR), has recently been issued. The grants offered are for periods of research from two to twelve weeks and will cover travel expenses, accommodation, and other expenses connected with the scientific research. The main attraction of the large scale facility at the SMC is access to a unique collection of benthic invertebrates from the international Benthic Invertebrates of Icelandic Waters (BIOICE) project, which has been in operation since 1992. In addition, more than 1000 samples from Icelandic waters are available, from depths of between 20 and 2400 metres. The SMC also offers access to a wet lab with running sea water of exceptional quality. Scientists from the EU Member States, as well as those from the associated states of Norway, Liechtenstein and Israel, are eligible to submit proposals under this call.
