Romania participates in SME programme
Romania can participate in the multiannual programme for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the EU, which runs from 1997 to 2000. This follows a Decision the European Commission has published adopting the terms and conditions for Romania's participation in the Community programme in the field of SMEs (Decision No 2/98: 1999/107/EC). The Decision, in force from 1 January 1999, allows Romania to participate in all aspects of the programme, except for distributive trade, crafts and small enterprises, and the organisation of IBEX events. Romania will be subject to the same terms and conditions for the programme as other eligible institutions, and will have to pay an annual contribution, of ECU 419 440 from 1998, to the budget of the EU to cover the costs resulting from its participation.
