Parliament is looking for research experts
The Directorate General for Research of the European Parliament (EP) has published a call for expression of interest within the research programme. The DG for Research of the EP prepares and manages the Parliament's research programme, which is renewed on an annual basis and covers the areas referred to below. The purpose of the research programme is to provide expert information, analysis and options assessment to Parliamentary Committees and other institutions of the Parliament. In a typical financial year, about 750,000 euro will be available for external research projects within the research programme. It is envisaged that about 30 projects will be undertaken yearly. The following areas are covered by the Parliament's research programme: - Political questions; - Institutional questions; - Security policy; - European Community budgetary and budgetary control matters; - Comparative law; - Citizens' rights; - Culture and education; - Youth; - Media; - Women's rights; - Social policy; - Employment; - Working conditions; - Environment; - Public health; - Consumer protection; - External economic relations; - External trade; - Development and cooperation; - The Internal Market; - Economic and monetary affairs; - Industrial policy; - Fiscal policy; - Regional policy and planning; - Transport; - Tourism; - Energy and research; - Agriculture; - Fisheries and aquaculture; - Foodstuffs; - Forestry. Some of the research projects listed above are entrusted to outside contractors, such as universities, research institutes and consultancy firms, as well as individual researchers. The contractors are normally chosen on the basis of calls for tenders, subject to the procedures laid down in the Financial Regulation of the European Communities. Contractors should be able to provide professional research services and, for larger projects, directly related ancillary services, such as translation of research reports, in whole or in part, into specified European Community languages.
