The European Commission, DG XXIV, has recently published an open invitation to tender to evaluate the toxicological data submitted to the Commission on 18 hairdye ingredients. The study will define their risk for the consumer and calculate the margin of safety. Depending on the nature of the substance, the data contained in the dossier might cover the following toxicological end points: acute, sub-chronic and chronic toxicity, dermal absorption, dermal and mucous membrane irritation, skin sensitization, genotoxicity and photo-genotoxicity, teratogenicity, and human data (if available).
