Demand for transport modes not covered by international statistics
The European Commission, DG VII, has launched a restricted call to tender for a study on demand for transport in modes not covered by international transport statistics. The Commission intends to invite around ten consultants to tender for the study, on the basis of requests to participate received. The study is aimed at collecting data on transport demand (time series on passenger-km and tonne-km by EU Member State) for modes that are normally not covered in international transport statistics (e.g. urban rail (tram/metro), local and non-public railways, passenger transport by water, bicycle traffic, walking). This includes the collection of available statistical data and estimating missing data to provide consistent time series. The Commission thus intends to complete existing datasets (for some modes comprehensive data are already available on a European level) to obtain a full picture of European transport demand and modal split. The study should be completed by the end of July 1997. Requests for further information, and requests to participate, should be sent to: European Commission DG VII - Transport Mr. R.
