GATA proteins and differentiation

Research is focussed on the role of the GATA proteins in haemopoietic differentiation and the nervous system. A number of biochemical and biological systems are being developed. A number of high quality developments have occurred involving the following:
role of GATAs in the developing nervous system established;
GATA1/cyclins link established;
GATA3 knockout.

The project is moving closer to understanding the role of GATA and other proteins in globin gene expression. Greater understanding of the suppression of the embryonic and fetal genes could lead to novel approaches for the treatment of thalassaemia and sickle cell anaemia.
