Optical/electronic multi channel system for industrial inspection

An inspection demonstrator consisting of a work handling environment, a digital image processor, an inspection preprocessor, and a process controller was developed and tested. Theoretical modelling of the image processing algorithms in relation to a representative industrial inspection task was performed. Modelling of the effects of optical implementations was included in this work. The implementations of a number of algorithms were experimentally investigated, including power spectrum analysis, correlation, Sobel filtering, image moments, the log polar transform, and the Hough transform. The log polar, power system, and Sobel algorithms were integrated into a separate optical image processing demonstration system.
